I went with my SIL and 9 year old grandson for a hunt this morning. Got in the woods by 5:40 and waited for the woods to come to life. A little after, six we had 5 gobblers within a hundred yards and four more about 200-300 yes away. After the first, hems started to call, I called back to them. As they pitched down, half of the turkeys went to our left and half landed on our right. All were out of range, so I started to call to them. One hen got really Ticked and yelped and cutted back to me. I gave it back to her and she started my way. I looked directly in front of us and saw a black bear standing 70 yards staring intently at us. He appeared to be about 150 lbs. and swung his head from left to right listening to the turkeys. I told Jacob "bear!" And then he saw him. The bear kept watching the birds and I yelped twice. He immediately looked at me but he couldn't smell us or see a turkey where the sound was coming from. After 4-5 minutes, he slowly turned away and walked back down the hill towards a small creek. Jacob and I looked at each other and both agreed how cool that was, especially since we don't see many bears in Washington county. After we tried to head those birds off(unsuccessfully) we headed back to the car. As we headed down the last hill, my grandson looked up at me and said "Pappy, I didn't kill a gobbler this morning, but seeing that bear was a lot cooler!" I told him a great hunt doesn't mean you have to carry or drag something home, you can go home with great memories.
I think we made some memories today!
