Anyone heading out today? I'm getting ready for a day of stalking. Ground is wet, snowing just a bit and windy. Good day to sneak before everything get super crunchy with the bitter cold temps moving in.

Was out for about an hour this morning, sneaking through a small patch of thick stuff.. Will head back out around 1pm and sit in a tree till dark.

I hunting in 2D. No deer. Came in for a bit of lunch hopping this wind lays down alittle bit

Back for lunch. Soon as I hit the woods 2 busted me. I never saw them, and I was looking. Farther out the ridge I saw 4 feeding away from me a long ways off. Tried a sneak and they fed down over a steep drop off. Made my way up to where I last saw them go over and they were gone. Warm up, fill up the belly, and go out and sit in one of the blinds til dark. Good luck to everyone.

I'm stuck without a vehicle until next Monday or Tuesday, due to my truck deciding it didn't want to shift into reverse anymore. Need a new trans. Hoping my son doesn't have to work this weekend. If not I can at least get him to drop me off and pick me up. If not then I'm on a forced break until I get my wheels back.

Working, Hope to get out Saturday have a 2 day duck hunt next tues and Wed down on Md's eastern shore then back in the woods for the final few days!!!

Thanks. But it was bound to happen. Truck is almost 10 years old and is real close to the 200K miles mark. Its my own fault. I maintained everything on that truck, but the trans. I admittedly haven't ever had it serviced. Its the first automatic vehicle I ever owned that I've put that many miles on. Normally,(had I still been working at my other job) I would have traded that truck in 3 or 4 years ago on something new. I never kept a vehicle more than about 6 years. Since my layoff over 2 years ago, these days, I just can't afford another vehicle. I should've known better, but it is what it is. I'll just bite the bullet and pay for my mistake. At least the truck should get another lease on life once I get it back. Need to keep it at least a couple more years.

As to hunting, I'm not concerned. I have until the 28th to fill a tag. Advantage of hunting in 5C. Season is longer.

I was out in my comfortable box stand this evening for 2 hours didn't see anything. Last night I did the same seen 2 in the fog at 50 yards .

Well I had my chances this afternoon, saw nine does and had one broadside at 40 yards. My pan powder never lit off and she ran off to about 80 yards and stopped but never got a second chance.

Was out starting about 2 this afternoon. Jumped 4 or 5 that were bedded about 40 yds from my ladder stand on the way in. At about 425 had at least 7 or 8 heading my way along a field edge, but by then wind was really whipping and a deadfall branch leaning on a live tree about 25 yds from me decided to start screeching like a distress predator call and the already overly cautious lead doe who was at about 40yds but no clear shot led the herd down into the treeline and out of sight

Went out but the sun was shining too much in the afternoon and my only decent stand was on top of a hill, not the right place to be in a wind storm.
I figured the deer were holed up in the bottom.
There was a lot of fresh buck rubs in the pines that was not there two weeks ago, but did not see any deer. Decided to fill up the heater, plug some of the holes in the wall of the shed and call it a day early. Was home by 4 PM.
Wind has been blowing 15 - 45 MPH steadily all day / night.

I learned a long time ago while working as a logger, not to be ----- footing in the woods in a wind storm.. One widow maker is all that it takes to end a hunting career..
Maybe it will snow tomorrow.
