Why don't they make sighting in a gun part of the course or do they have it?
If not,it sure would be a good idea.
Because its PA. You are treated as a adult when it comes to firearms. With a CCW, there is no requirement to pass a shooting or safety test, and there is none for becoming a hunter. It is your responsibility, and yours alone, as it should be.

Besides, have you ever tried to teach kids (or parents) anything? You could NEVER impart the basic marksmanship that you need to sight a rifle in well to 30 kids in 4 hours. When I was a scout leader, we went over what to pack for a 5 day unsupported canoe trip for months. One kid still showed up with 4 meals and no tent. Didnt let us know till we were afloat.

I don't think it should be part of the course but the reasoning for sighting in should be explained to new hunters as part of the course. I run into many folks who have not sighted in or who believe that bore sighting is sufficient.
