depends on the pad. is it a rubber pad? usually sandpaper, do your best to keep it straight and tape the stock up well to keep from buggering it up.

Most folks use a disc sander or belt sander. There are probably how-tos on the internet.

Mount pad; cover stock with tape; grind off excess to conform with stock...very carefully.
