How long to recall an area?

Ive heard lots of different thoughts on this and am wondering what everyones standards are pertaining to how long until you go back to an area after you call it?

i called spots at say around 7pm and got nothing went back at say 11pm and was successful.Then at other times I got busted or couldnt get a shot and no matter what(Different setups,calls,and different times) they wouldnt come into the call again
