It all depends on us and whether we allow it. Part of thet is electing legislators who believe in the Constitution. So far we are not doing a very good job, too many people voting for free stuff.

I feel within 30 years our right to own firearms will be greatly restricted. John S said it best above. We also need to stop in-fighting and stick together. Join the NRA and a local gun club.

Re: How long before we lose the right to own firea

It never ceases to amaze me how many otherwise normally intelligent folks can be so gullible.

In many states and localities around this great nation we have already lost our second amendment rights. Maryland, where I live is a perfect example. Can someone show me where in the second amendment the following provisions and restrictions are covered?

I can only buy one handgun a month.

Every handgun sold in MD has to have two locks, a trigger lock and an internal lock.

I cannot carry my handgun anywhere in MD except inside my house. And, when I am not carrying it in my house it had better be in a safe with two locks activated.

I can only transport my handgun in my car directly to and from an "authorized" shooting activity, ie. a range or hunting location. And don't be so stupid as to have the gun and ammunition in close proximity to each other while transporting. And, I may not make any side trips or stop en route.

I must wait 10 days in Maryland before I can pick up a handgun that I have purchased.

Not only do I have to submit to a NICS check to purchase, the MD state police also have to approve.

I cannot get a carry permit in MD unless I can prove someone is trying to kill me or I carry large sums of cash every day. And, if the MD government does agree to give me a license to carry permit, it must be reviewed and reapproved every year to the tune of outrageous fees.

Now, how many of you believe that my second amendment rights have NOT been violated in Maryland? And MD is not the only state or locality in the U.S. to have laws and regulations that clearly violate our second amendment rights.

Best regards, Glenn

Wow Glenn they make it so miserable that you wouldn't want to own a hand gun in Maryland and if you do make the ammo so expensive Hmmmmm I would say you are right there already gone for you and the rest of us probably isn't far behind.
sad to hear, makes joining the NRA seem so much more valuable

Welcome to the People's Republic of Maryland... Move to Virginia! Open carry, easy to get a concealed carry, 3 over the counter buck tags a year and we don't have Prince George's County in our state and we at least have a large river called the Potomac between us and the dump known as Washington DC!

That is precisely why I am not fond of Maryland and it's residents. Living a mere 10 miles from the border, they are coming up here in droves, infecting our great state with their liberal ways. I'm not judging "YOU," per se Glenn. It is the prevailant Maryland majority in which I'm referencing.

We may never lose the right, but if we keep electing these left leaning gun haters that right will be severely restricted in years to come. But hey don't listen to me, just keep voting the way that your union, favorite celebrity, news anchor etc. says.

You can keep all the firearms you want. Getting lead, powder, primers and cases/hulls is a different story. Due to health concerns if you have children you cannot reload in your home any longer. You will be charged with child abuse/endangerment! It's in the health care bill!

I dont think we'll lose our gun rights in our life time. When will people stop being so paranoid and realize that firearms make a lot of people in this country rich. Not just the sale of guns but all the things that go along with them. How much revenue does Pa make from the sale of deer licenses? Not to mention all the business that local businesses get from deer hunters. The NRA does us a service I will admit that. However, they are guilty of pumping out a lot of propoganda as well. Just about every servey I have seen shows that the overwhelming majority of the US population supports gun rights. Are we really going to allow a few liberals from NJ or Cali push us around? Heck what it all comes down too is that we have guns and they dont. That is why our opinion matters more.

JMO but those of us that already have firearms will never have to give them up unless we ourselves loose the right to own arms by felony charges or domestic abuse charges.

I’m sure the criteria for CCW’s will become tighter as time goes by and the need for a permit might be looked at closer. When I got mine 35 years ago you needed to be a business owner or carry large quantities of money to get one and even then it was not a sure thing. Today it is much easier.

They don't have guns? They most certainly do, and they have bigger guns than we do, they are called the armed services. Hunting and hunting licenses are no more than a "red Herring" in this discussion, the 2nd amendment has nothing to do with hunting. Laxidasical attitudes like you express are the reason we have already incrementally lost 2nd amendment rights. The potential to lose the rest of them are there, all we have to do is keep voting for the socialist element in our society because they promise to make life easier by giving us tings we should be providing for ourselves. We now have the most socialist President and cabinet we have ever had in the history of this country and socialist governments cannot tolerate the private ownership of firearms, any firearms because an armed society stiffles their ability to impose their will. Do not be lulled into a false sense of security by polititians who say they are not opposed to hunting firearms, just firearms that have no use other than to hurt people, all firearms can hurt people in the hands of an idiot. Hunting is now in the equasion, it is a smokescreen used by those who want to do away with the 2nd amendment.
