years ago, I remember seeing in a book on archery a picture of a horizontially held bow that did not have a stock and was not a crossbow. I would guess it was made in the 1950's or earlier. Has anyone ever seen one or remember the name? any help would be appreciated.

no, although the book that had this bow in also had flight bows in it (if my failing memory is correct) The bow that they showed was handheld but was fired completely horizontial. I'm pretty sure it was a recurve.
