The Ottawa Citizen today has an article about a rabid raccoon that either came by truck or train and has caused a rabies outbreak in Canada.

Apparently they can analyze the strain and determine what area it comes from. Never knew they could do that. They say this particular strain comes from southeastern NY state.

Also they can vaccinate by dropping vaccine laced bait.

I don't know if the 3 second rule applies...so if any of you are headed for Canada be careful what you pick up off the ground and eat...

thats less than a mile from my home.
Now it makes you wonder if such outbreaks originate locally or were the result of a hitch hiker. Never knew that rabies could be traced back to various geographical areas.
