I am looking at purchasing a 1990 jeep wrangler with 156,000 miles on it. It is in average shape with minimal rust. Here is what it has:

- 4 cylinder, 5 speed
- soft top, soft doors, and a bikini top
- 4 inch black diamond lift, 3 inch suspension lift
- 33" tires
- roof rack
- some rust on fenders but appears to just be starting
- frame looks good except for one spot on the rear passenger side where it was repaired, repair was professionally done and appears to be solid.

Asking price is $5500 which seem high but I am not sure how to price out with a lift on it, KBB puts it at $3200 as a standard jeep. Let me know what you think.

Thats high mileage anything could go wrong with it after you buy it...Seems like a nice lifted jeep..Offer the guy 3500-4000 on it...There are ALOT of these jeeps out there on the market..There are auto auctions in Gettysburg and greencastle which will show you the price they are worth..At one of these auctions this jeep would by lucky to hit 1000 dollars...You are just paying this seller a premium because of it name..JEEP...

I wouldn't buy a jeep without a 4.0l motor

It's 23 years old, 1500-2000 would be all I would go. Also I can't see that 4 banger doing a good job with 33" tires.

I too agree with all of the posts.Large tires depending on what rear gears it has could mean a lot of ridin the clutch to pull out especially on hills.If it was bone stock with no frame damage(even though it,s been repaired)with lower miles would be one thing.But I think it ain,t worth near that much and it,s possibly got more frame damage just waitin to happen.

Good call on passing.

For starters it is lifted way to far for anything but off roading in my opinion. thinking that 7" of lift in a older wrangler would not handle well at 55mph ?
The 4cyl is also under powered for road use with those tires and set up.

Sounds like a fun off road toy for $3,000 or so, not a fun driver on the street.

I would never buy a 4 cyl jeep. My current wrangler is a 6 cyl and I wouldn't want any less power than it currently has. Heck, mine even struggles pulling a quad. I would also suggest a manual transmission.

Jeeps hold an insane value. I agree that is too much to pay.

As for the 4 cyl vs the 6 cyl, the 4 cyl will have a 4.10 rear that makes it "feel" pretty close to the 6cyl...unless you are trying to pull something.

Still, find one with the 6 cyl. if for no other reason, resale on it is higher.

As for the lift, 7 inches isn't too bad as long as it was done right. You will know once you drive it.

Anyone can go and bid on a vehicle..You need to go an hour or two early to register..The one in Greencastle is called Mason Dixon Auto auction along Interstate 81..Coming south you go to the second greencastle exit and it is on the right...You can look them up on the internet..Their sales are each tuesday night...Great place to buy a vehicle but terrible place to sell one...You see what they are worth...

I seen a lot of nice lifted Cherokees for that money, my buddy has a wrangler almost exactly like you described, 2.5 4cy with 35s. It's like full throttle up a slight grade with the 5 speed.
