Myself and 3 friends are looking to hunt black bear over bait in Maine in the fall of 2011. We would like to try and find an outfitter for between $500 to $1000 for the cost of the hunt. We understand that there will still be license fees on top of that. If possible we would bring our own camper and supply our own meals. This would be our first trip and didn't know if there where any outfitters that did things like this. Any help or suggestions for a couple of guys on working class budgets would be appreciated. Thanks

Good luck. I've been looking at bear hunts in Maine for a few years and I can't say that I've ever found one under $1200.

I just checked and Maine registers guides operating in that state. If I were you, I'd call the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, get a list of registered guides, and start calling them.

Hunted moose with Jeff asnd Jan at Blackbrook Cove 2 years ago and talked to some of their bear hunters. It sounded very reasonable price wise if you camp in their campground and supply your own meals. Nice place and great people to deal with. If I remember right it was like $800 for the week?
