I would start out with something in 9mm or .38 special and practice, practice and then practice.

We will need a lot more information first. Are you familiar with pistols, what is your budget, will this be a dual purpose gun, Range and carry. Are you looking at revolvers or semi. Your question as ask is like saying you need transportation. That could be anything from a bicycle to a one ton truck.

Plus in PA it is a License to Carry Firearms. You apply it you county sheriff's office and in most cases you get it the same day.

Ruger LCP, LCR, LC9, SR9c, SR40c

Smith and Wesson Shield, Bodyguard, M&P 9c

Springfield Armory, Glock, Taurus, Kahr, etc

Best thing is to visit a gun shop and get a feel for what you like and how you want to carry.

No one's going to be able to suggest the perfect gun for you. Give us more information and we can give you a handful to go check out. Once you have them all in your hand you will know which one is right for you.

Caliber
Thickness
Weight
Capacity
Semi vs Revolver
Purpose
Etc

All the above come into play and more.
