JAMESTOWN, NY – Jamestown police are announcing the arrest of two city men following an investigation into dozens of guns that were stolen from central pennsylvania.

According to Jamestown Police Captain Robert Samuelson, on Friday, June 17 at about 9:30 p.m. officers were conducting a street check of an individual walking on South Main St. at Axtel St. in Jamestown.

The subject was identified as 36 year-old Jason Thorn and was found to have an active bench warrant.

Thorn was taken into custody and was found to be in possession of a pistol that was found to be stolen during a burglary of a gun shop in Mansfield, PA.

Police contacted the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and a subsequent investigation determined that the gun was one of dozens that were taken in three separate burglaries in the central Pennsylvania area.

As a result of the investigation, both Jamestown police and federal ATF officials recovered 55 stolen handguns and rifles on Tuesday, June 21, which they say were destined to be sold on the streets of the Jamestown area.

The investigation resulted in both Thorn and 31 year-old Ben McCormack being arrested and both face a multiple count federal indictment for their part in the three burglaries.

According to U.S. Attorney Peter Smith, McCormack and Thorne are charged with conspiracy to steal and unlawfully possess firearms from the inventories of licensed gun stores.

In a media release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office – Middle District of Pennsylvania, officials say on or about May 29, 2016, McCormack and an unindicted co-conspirator allegedly broke into Arrowhead Outdoors, a gun store in Tionesta, Pennsylvania and stole approximately 28 firearms. On or about June 17, 2016, McCormack and Thorne allegedly stole approximately 36 firearms from GNR Sporting Goods in Mansfield. On or about June 20, 2016, McCormack and an unindicted co-conspirator allegedly broke into and stole approximately 29 firearms from Fulmer’s Sporting Goods in Wysox Township.

“Gun thieves are a principal source of weapons that make their way into the hands of criminals. Stolen guns are quickly dispensed through underground transactions and the cycle of violence is initiated,” said ATF Special Agent in Charge Sam Rabadi. “I commend the diligent work of the investigators from ATF, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the Jamestown Police Department in New York, in this ongoing, wide-ranging and multi-jurisdictional investigation. Their outstanding investigative efforts led to the recovery of at least 55 of the stolen firearms that were destined for our communities and led to the swift identifications and arrests of those involved in these gun store burglaries.”

The investigation is being conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the Jamestown, New York Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys George Rocktashel and John Gurganus

Glad to hear these guys were caught, who knows how many crimes would have been committed on top of the ones the thieves already did. They deserve whatever they get, hopefully a strict sentence.

Re: Gun Store Robberies - CAUGHT!!!

they got caught in New York with a lot of handguns.

if New York is serious and wants to send a message the least they can do for the possession of handgun part is sentence them consecutively to one year for every gun they had.

that would be 55 years each. thats fair.

Somebody tell Hillary, they caught them, the guns were fine, it was the criminals that got caught stealing the guns, apparently they did not have time to wait for their 25 day Fed. approval..

Didn't they know about Gov Cuomos SAFE ACT? Guns are against the law in NY!!
YEP, Mandatory year in jail for having a gun and no permit to carry it.

55 stolen guns recovered = 55 years in jail for each criminal

bet they dont do it.

Betcha that before 10 years has passed, they'll be out and doing it again! Fact of the matter is that while liberal politicians scream about guns and want to pass more laws restricting the law abiding citizens, our criminal justice system very often gives the bad guys nothing more than a slap on the wrist.

Re: Gun Store Robberies - CAUGHT!!!

i just read in the paper today that last month, in Chicago there were 15 shootings a day. the tally for June is 72 murders and 447 shooting victims.

Chicago is a Democrat run city with some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation. proof positive that the laws dont work if they dont get enforced.

of course they will blame the other states surrounding Illinois as the major source of guns coming into Chicago, just like New York will do with this case and blame it on the availability of guns in Pennsylvania.

Re: Gun Store Robberies - CAUGHT!!!

well if those states supplying guns are to blame how come they are not having all those shootings? After all, it's the guns..

Ya think, just maybe, it's not the gun but the people using them?

How about a mandatory 1 year for each gun they were found to have in their posession, and 2 years for each one they already sold!

Better yet, how about charging and trying them as accessory to any crime committed with each and every one the stolen guns that were not recovered?

they got caught with the guns in New York. i believe its a mandatory 1 year sentence for not having a permit let alone having 55 stolen handguns.

lets see how good old Anti-Gun New York handles the charges on this one.
