We headed north to NY for one last hunt today. Had to be careful where we went as they had six inches of fresh snow this week. Obviously no one else was interested in hunting grouse today as we were driving into virgin snow

Who would have thought we'd be hunting in tee shirt weather today

Hunting was better than expected today, we moved 8 grouse in 4 hours(I guess WNV hasnt crossed into NY and their 5 month season isnt hurting the population). Early in the morning the birds were coming out of trees, but in the afternoon as we worked south facing cover with some bare ground we were finally able to find grouse down and moving around. Good dog work and new covers found; no grouse were harmed.

As the sun sets, its a long wait to start again October 1st

Sounds great. Sure was a nice day to be out. We stuck around here today in NEPA. Took the blank gun & started out primarily looking to see if any woodcock had filtered into a few places but it turned into a productive scouting trip for a new grouse covert and another spot I'm certain will produce woodcock for next year. We only moved 3 grouse in this spot but I think we only scratched the surface of the area. Aah, October, will be looking forward to its return.

Good on you for getting out there Lost, it sure was a nice day. Looking at that road in I wonder if my truck would even make it in or out, course I'd have had to try. Never buy a really heavy truck, you might get stuck from time to time. Nearly time to chase woodcock now and listen for drumming grouse soon too.
