Mom is moving and while cleaning out drawers,she found a letter my grandma from Albuquerqe wrote about hunt. Seems antelope in the early 70's was a lottery and grandpa also entered her name too. She pulled a tag,he didn't. Long story short,300y shot with 6mm Sako in the liver. I never knew how the horns measured up. She writes they were 16". Also said the dressed weight was 68#.
My question is I know Boone and Crockett are accumulative scores but how does 16" stack up?
Seems to me that any thing over 13"-14" is decent

Thanks guys. Gma was not a hunter and was very annoyed that gpa had entered her name. So like any lady she used her wiles to to get a new 'outfit' for the hunt, made gpa customize the Sako to fit her. The story goes that she and a girlfriend were dropped off on a rise and told by gpa to wait for him to go hide the jeep and come back. Turns out he got stuck in the mud and she wasn't waiting when this big guy walked by.This was the first day of a 2 day hunt and she wasn't getting up at o dark thirty the next day so she was darn well shooting this buck now. With no range finder she held over and got him at 300y. Gpa was kinda mad he missed it all but now nobody could say he shot her buck.
The funny thing was that her antelope was the only trophy allowed in the house as all Gpas trophies were relegated to the garage. I would have liked to have those mounts but G pa willed them to a local gun shop in Albuquerque when he died

By the way, this happened in 1972 and gma was about 60 years old then. It was her first and last hunt. She wrote that she did not gut it but had no problem skinning it. She also was very fond of cooking gpa's game and her favorite was elk. She eloped with gpa when she was 15,went home after the JOP married them and told no one for a year she was married. Gpa had a love for airplanes and bought a surplus WW1 jenny biplane, taught himself to fly and then took gma barnstorming across the south in the late 1920's. Mom was born when she was 17 and Gpa joined the Navy and became a pilot. Heck of a love story,almost movie material
