Getting myself together for the late season, got a buddy coming up Sunday to get the .58 and my boys .45 dialed in.

Going to my friend nearby who has a nice 50 yd covered range then clean them up wait for the cold weather!

Just got a muzzle loader pouch from Rogers sporting goods that holds a few speed-loaders, and my short starter on the outside.

Was lucky to score some of the old TC speed-loaders for round-ball/conicals for both rifles.

Anyone else got the itch??

My new .54 is sitting in the safe, brand new unfired. I don't currently have a spot here to shoot it in NC, so I'm stuck waiting until Thanksgiving weekend when I drive up to PA. An itch doesn't begin to describe how bad I want to make it go boom.

I have been turkey hunting with the flinter and dreaming of deer season, I have three tags and a freezer to fill.
So far the woods time has been sparse but it will improve.
Good luck to you PRB hunters.

I've got it to. Only been using a flinter a few years. BUT I really like having the woods to myself. I just walk from tree to tree. Sometimes it takes a while but I eventually find a deer. Sometimes I even shoot at them.
Can't wait now, thanks a lot.

I'm definitely excited for flintlock deer season. It was awesome getting a turkey with the .36 this past weekend, but deer will be a whole different game. I can actually use that little .36 for deer in Tennessee, and that's the plan just after Thanksgiving (got permission on a friend's farm there). Then, it's will be late season in PA with the .54 cal. Hopefully, it all works out.

Why wait till the late season? I use mine during the regular deer season. I hunt in Chester county so no rifles allowed. I'd rather use my flintlock than a slug gun. Of course the late season does have its charm with the colder weather and potential for snow.

I already have my vacation time in, just need to make motel reservations. I'll do that this weekend

The .50 cal I finished a few months ago is dialed in, I just need to get out and do some offhand practice. I have not hunted regular rifle season for 5-6 yrs, but always carried a flintlock for it when I did. The late season has been my "Deer Season" that I look forward to. Took a button buck with the .45 cal in Oct, so may pass on any does the 1st day or so and see if I run into a buck. Then again, any deer with a flint is a trophy to me, so never know, if a nice big doe passes by, I may cave just to blood the new Bedford Co. rifle.

Got our boxes together last night ready to get zero'd, my friend hand made us stainless steel powder measures for each of the rifles for our specific loads, can't wait to try them out!

Also got my new custom sling ready too!

Might hunt in all old school wool too! Come Dec 26th!

I've got 4 to 5 bucks on my deer cam at my stand site this year so I'm going to go for a buck first, but the flint may scrape steel if the right doe shows herself at the right time. I passed on a couple nice does last year in the hopes of getting a buck that I had been seeing, He never offered me a shot the whole season, and I ended up not filling a tag.

I remember that first season back in the mid-70's. I didn't have a flintlock then, and was in Potter Co. by myself with my recurve bow. I'd come in for lunch, and there was a knock on the camp door, and when I answered it, there stood a couple of frozen Daniel Boones in buckskins! Well, they were boys from West Virginia, and had come north to hunt the Game Lands near Clara, there in northern Potter which was open only a couple of days to flintlock hunting.

They were turned around and had come out of the woods a couple of miles from their vehicle, so I offered to drive them to where they had probably parked because they weren't sure. After they had warmed up by the fire with a cup of coffee, we piled into the truck, and it was then that I began to detect a bit of a foul odor. I'd never been around burnt black powder before, and they'd fired off both their rifles which were propped between their legs next to me.

I was born and raised in West Virginia, but I'd not encountered this odor ever before, and the heat from the truck, the smell of the oily buckskins mixed with the foul odor coming from those two rifles, made for an open window experience.:p

I've enjoyed the smell of burnt black powder ever since, and couldn't wait to get me one of those fine long guns. That episode was forty some years ago, and now I have a .36 cal., a .45 cal., a .50 cal., a .54 cal., and a .58 cal. smoothbore, and I enjoy shootin' 'em all!:)

That's what I love, the tradition and history behind the rifles. Hunted w a buddy's .58 and instantly knew I had to get one built. Love the fact your holding a piece of history, and craftsmanship in your hands. Definitely look forward to wool, wood and steel in the late season.

Thanks for sharing

My 1st rifle I won in one of those Christmas Gun Raffles my Dad signed me up for. That was in 1991. Won a TC PA .50 cal flintlock. Decided I'd try hunting with it. Hated the rifle. Well, hated the trigger, but fell in love with the idea of flintlock. Traded in on a Traditions PA Longrifle in 1993. Loved it. Took a lot of deer with it in MO and PA until 2000 when I started hunting with a .54 cal TVM Early Lanc I bought as a retirement gift to myself. Finally got the time and facilities to start building rifles last year. Something I've wanted to do since the mid 90's (base housing does not make that possible though). Finished my 1st one two summers ago and got hooked. Each "upgrade" was just like throwing another log on the fire and always made/makes me look forward to the upcoming season even more.

I'm just getting into the woolrich clothing. I'm lucky enough to have a friend who "models" for them. He's mailed me some undergarments.

A sincere thank you for your service, and Happy Veterans Day. In the morning, I'll be picking up my buddy, a vet of Viet Nam, and going for breakfast. We've hunted together with our Brad Emig, "Yorktowns", for a number of years now. We just don't hunt that far from the truck anymore.;)

Berks, I've been hunting solo the last 5-6 years. I tend to stay closer to the truck now too. I also text the wife when going in and when coming out. Along with my location so the troopers can retrieve my rifle if needed. Would hate to see it get all rusted up from laying out there too long ;)

Kinda getting a little excited myself.............

I've got a pair of doe tags. I may transfer one to my little hunter gal. But I fully intend to have at least one of them left to blow some coal smoke over.
