Not really considering any new purchase. I have a 10/22 and a AR-15 that I would use for groundhogs. Also have a Garand that I may consider hunting deer with some day just for fun but it won't be my go to weapon. Maybe if I were to buy a new upper for my AR some day I would consider something that would be better for deer than .223.

Nah. Even at 23 years old, I'm not part of the semi-auto craze. The extent of my semi-auto use would be maybe my 10/22 for groundhogs on a farm one Saturday, that's about it. I'll stick to the bolts, pumps, and levers for general hunting use. To each his own though......

I have two AR's, mine and the wife's. They are defensive and set up that way in case of war or the zombie apocalypse. Plus they are fun to shoot. If I enter into a hunting situation with a AR, it will be in a 204 Ruger for coyote only, and some plinking fun. I am a bow hunter predominantly (I am Defiant), but if I go for bears or deer, my trusty TC Encore or new flinter is it. No need for all that firepower for a one shot deal anyway. To each his own, but its not for me.

I already have future plans for an AR 10 .308 build anyway, so this might slightly alter my build design. I'm also a fan of the "classic" PA deer guns, so the M700, M760 and M94 will still be my go-to guns. That said, I'll take the AR 10 out every now and again, just because I can.

As far as I can recall, I have never even fired a semiautomatic rifle. Just doesn't trip my trigger whether it be for hunting or home defense. If I can't get the job done - hunting wise - with one of my lever, bolt, or single shot rifles, then I will be just fine with that.

We hunt within the steep foothills of Perry County where shots tend to be less than 75 yards. My older Marlin 30-30 has served me quite well indeed and no plans to replace her with a racier semi-auto rifle.

I might purchase or build one as a hedge against any possible lead ammo ban implemented in the future. I hunt with a savage 99f chambered in .300 savage and I don't see that being a popular lead free round.

Plus it gives me an excuse to add to my collection.

This year, I will likely still take out my 99f.
