So, last night I finally pulled the trigger on a TOTW kit. Hit the add to cart button on a Beck 50cal kit, thanks for helping kick me off the fence Blackpowder. Then while I'm checking out I realize that one of the parts is backordered...

THE LOCK, GRRR!

After calming down a bit I got to looking at options. The Siler locks are out of stock, both regular and deluxe. I have not had a chance to contact TOTW or Chambers to see how long the wait is. If the wait is too long I'd like opinions of what to do. TOTW has most if not all L&R locks in stock, thought about calling them and seeing if I can swap them on the order.

I have a lot of parts for one build on B/O with TOW. Fortunately the lock was not one of them. The barrel however....no idea when it will come in. was told a couple months. Is why I started ordering parts for another different build. Just waiting on the barrel for it to be resent (I was sent the wrong one from the manufacturer). Good luck with the build and post pics

Time to do the internet search. I'm sure some outfit out there must have some locks in stock.
nobody did when I was after one. you have to watch, because some places you pay for it and the in the next day or two, they email you and tell you that don't have them in stock and you have to wait for refund. you almost have to call.

Yeah, I recall... I just didn't want to be quite that forward.

TOTW said they are hoping to get a shipment any time now, but Chambers doesn't give them expected delivery dates. Apparently I need to offer my services as their buyer. I can change my order any time up to when they ship, or exchange what they ship anytime. They were nice about it. I want to take this slow to make certain I don't screw something up. But I can work on the barrel and butt before I NEED the lock. Then I'll have to make a hard and fast decision.

I know the Chambers locks are Cadillac's, but it got me thinking how "bad" are the L&R. That's mostly why I posted. I would like to use the best parts available, but are the L&R's more like a Chevy or a Pinto?

Sorry, I was trying to post on my lunch break. I should know better by now not to try and hurry.

heck, don't worry about being forward, everybody else I know doesn't worry about it! I have one L&R ( on the .32 you shot ) and it is flawless, as good as any others I have. but, if your stock is inletted for a Siler then it will probably be pretty close, based on what I have seen. for what it is worth, you have a lot to do and a lot to keep you busy until a lock arrives. maybe some of other others will give you some imput too.

I have the L&R Classic on my Dickert rifle. It works just fine. I actually thought about swapping it for a Siler once, and spoke to Jim Chambers about it. He said the Siler is a smidgeon smaller in length, and will leave a gap at one end or the other when swapped on a gun with an inlet for a Classic.

If you go to each lock page on TOTWs web site, there is a pdf under the download tab. Print both locks (pages 161 and 170), and You can see the difference when you overlay both on a lighted surface, such as a PC or laptop screen with a blank Word document opened.

I have 3 L&R Bedford locks. One works but still not happy with pan/frizzen fit even after fiddling with it a bit. That and the frizzen does not kick all the way back when struck (still working on that). But it does work. The other lock works flawlessly. The 3rd looks good and seems to work, but I have not started that build yet. I'm kind of stuck with the L&R locks for the Bedfords because they are the only ones that make that style (until I figure out how to add a tail to another style lock). Those are the only L&R locks I have experience with. I have one Siler Late Ketland waiting to go on a build and it is night and day smoother operating. Wish they would make a Bedford style. If I do anything other than Bedfords, I think I'm going to stick with the Silers

no, it's not rebounding. Once I get some time I need to work on the frizzen spring. Takes twice as much pressure to open it as my other one (using trigger pull gage) so it's not opening all the way up everytime. But, has not affected ignition and kilt that deer just fine ;)
