A friend of mine from NY state has shown me pics...he and his family harvest piles of fiddleheads (they call them "curlies") and vacuum pack a bunch for later use.

He sautees them with salt/pepper/butter.

I'd never heard of this, but I'm curious about it.

Any tips/ideas on finding/cooking them?

There are a couple kinds of fiddleheads. Not all are edible. The Ostrich Fern fiddleheads are but others are toxic. I would recommend doing some research so you know how to identify the right ones.
