Even though I've not yet had a .35 Whelen I believe it is my favorite above .30. I have had a .350 Rem mag and that was very similar. I've owned several .45-70's and .450 Marlins and loaded for them. They're a lot of fun and they really thump stuff at shorter ranges. The 9.3's are tempting me more and more these days. I came close to getting a 9.3X57 Husky recently but the owner was a bit high on his price and wasn't flexible. With everthing else being identical I'd probably choose the 9.3X62 over the .35 Whelen.

I have a custom .338-06 that is a dream. It thumps the daylights out of anything you point it at. Weatherby sells factory ammo, mine is magnaported, so it kicks like a .270 .

thinking of getting a 35 Whelen

I've been thinking about the Whelen myself. The 1-16" twist holds me back and the fact that it limits you to 250 grain bullets. I think the 9.3's offer so much more with their faster twist rate and the 286 grain bullets. And of course since I fantasize about getting to Africa what would be better than a Safari with a Mauser actioned 9.3?
