Now you have till February 22nd statewide to hunt pheasant. Still roosters only in designated WMUs and rooster and hen hunting in the others.

"PHEASANT: Male only in WMUs 2A, 2C, 4C, 4E, 5A and 5B – Oct. 26-Nov. 30, Dec 16-24 and Dec. 26-Feb 22. Male and female may be taken in all other WMUs – Oct. 26-Nov. 30, Dec. 16-24 and Dec. 26-Feb. 22 (2 daily). No open season for pheasants in any Wild Pheasant Recovery Areas"

Sounds good to me. It will be nice to get a chance to hunt more in the late season closer to home.
Lynn,
Great stuff, glad to see it, more action for the dogs and men, especially in late season.

Late season stockings in all WMU's now?
Good question. I wonder if the new late season areas will get birds later in the year. Just have to wait and see.
I don't know either but the late season is mostly hens so I doubt the rooster only areas will get birds.

Even if you are releasing your own birds, you can now do it much later and hunt them.
This sounds great to me it'll be nice even to put out your own birds for dog training
except for the December stocking, I have NOT seen a pheasant in the "late" season for a number of years.
would be nice to have some birds in February
This is great news.
I never hunted a hen area. Will there be any left to shoot in Feb?

Don't know for sure but from the working group meeting they said that there wouldn't be any last season stocking in the rooster only areas. They just wanted to give people the opportunity if they put up any remaining birds.
It might provide some additional opportunities in areas where they don’t have winter snow. Unless we have an open winter up north though after about the first week of deep snow the pheasants are all in the valleys feeding under someone’s bird feeder.

Not that I have any real opposition to the season lasting longer, just pointing out that up here by that late in the winter the birds are mostly all in the areas that are pretty much off limits to hunting.

It would be nice to also extend the season for quail. I suspect there are no more wild quail in PA so why not increase the bag limit and open it to all areas. This way, we can put our own birds out.
I would think that would be doable other a couple WMUs in the south and any future wild quail restoration areas that open up.
Not sure why but year before last I had action right thru the extended season. Not a lot, just a bird or two per trip but it was still well worth going out and getting me and the dog some exercise.
Last season......after stocking twice as many birds (???), the late season was a total bust! After about a week into the season I saw zilch!
I had heard that they were supposed to do a late season in-season stocking last year which would have been great but to my knowledge, that never happened.
There were three in season releases last year and a late season release just before Christmas. With 250,000 birds being released now you should have some late birds to chase but it depends on the area you hunt. Better habitat will allow for better opportunities.
I was hunting the same areas both years. Great cover. There was snow cover this year but it didn't knock the cover down. I was thinking that someone new stocked the birds and they didn't put them in the same places.

Thank you
Great to know! The commission did such a great job last year that this can only make it better
