Really psyched about the new early muzzloader bear season. Looking forward to hunting it with the flintlock.
Should I be comfortable shooting a bear with 90gr 2f and a PRB?
Already been keeping my eyes open for a used .54 or .58, seems cheaper to buy a used one than a replacement barrel.

I'm looking forward to it as well, we frequently see bears in Oct and I appreciate the opportunity to take a bear with my flintlock. My go-to load is a .490 prb and 75 gr of 3f.

That's my load as well in both my 50 cal. flintlocks. It's going to be interesting to see how many bears are taken with flintlocks, or any muzzle loader for that matter. Looking forward to seeing some pics next Oct. :smile_big:

I would be. You put the ball where it counts and that load will do the job. What do you figure your max shooting distance is?

I'm sorry, I don't see quote anywhere. Using a smartphone, is there a difference than a computer? Thank you.

There may well be a difference. I don't own a smart phone so I cant help. Sorry.

I'm really excited about it. I'm going to try like heck for a flintlock triple trophy....with guns I've built. I should have a pair of 58s done before fall.

I guess technically the spring turkey needs killed next year on the 19/20 license...Im still starting this spring.

Then I will focus on finding bear. I already have the season off. Not spend much time archery hunting leading up to the season.

Then find a flintlock buck in rifle or the late season.

I'll be looking forward to bear drives moving deer. May or may not get a bear tag. Never was much interested in it. But like i said, bear drives might move the deer more

I agree. Never wanted to shoot one either, but I DO get a bear tag just in case one gets really stupid. Less to explain later.:surprise2:........0:)

I don't hunt bear either. But its still going to be interesting to see how the guys that are hunting bears do. I'm wondering if we will see the big drives that happen in rifle bear season.

You haven't given this any thought at all have you? :grin2: Sounds like a good plain mauser, all you need is a turkey a bear and a buck. What could go wrong. :smile_big: Seriously I cant believe this season is already over and we are thinking of spring gobbler and beyond. Time flies when your having fun.

Last doe I took was 71 yards. Didn’t feel that long. I range group well at 100yds. Always figured about 75 yds was my comfort zone on deer. Not trying any long shots on bear. They are sure tough, last I shot with a .308 hit both lungs and destroyed near shoulder. Still went over 200yds. Going to aim further back with the flintlock, like I would with a bow. Double lung and far shoulder would be ideal.
