Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show - Update

Reed Exhibitions has decided to postpone, for now, the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show given the controversy surrounding its decision to limit the sale or display of modern sporting rifles (also called ARs) at the event. The show was scheduled to take place February 2-10 in Harrisburg, PA.

“Our original decision not to include certain products in the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show this year was made in order to preserve the event’s historical focus on the hunting and fishing traditions enjoyed by American families,” said Chet Burchett, Reed Exhibitions President for the Americas. “In the current climate, we felt that the presence of MSRs would distract from the theme of hunting and fishing, disrupting the broader experience of our guests. This was intended simply as a product decision, of the type event organizers need to make every day."

“It has become very clear to us after speaking with our customers that the event could not be held because the atmosphere of this year’s show would not be conducive to an event that is designed to provide family enjoyment. It is unfortunate that in the current emotionally charged atmosphere this celebratory event has become overshadowed by a decision that directly affected a small percentage of more than 1,000 exhibits showcasing products and services for those interested in hunting and fishing."

“ESS has long been proud to participate in the preservation and promotion of hunting and fishing traditions, and we hope that as the national debate clarifies, we will have an opportunity to consider rescheduling the event when the time is right to focus on the themes it celebrates.”

Pretty weak statement by them. Not taking any blame for how this all transpired.

"We hope that as the national debate clarifies, we will have an opportunity to consider rescheduling the event."

There is no debate here. The sportsmen of American have spoken loud and clear.

The sentence below from their statement shows how far off base these folks really are.

"It is unfortunate that in the current emotionally charged atmosphere this celebratory event has become overshadowed by a decision that directly affected a small percentage of more than 1,000 exhibits showcasing products and services for those interested in hunting and fishing."

Clearly, Reed blames others (look in the mirror) for the "emotionally charged atmosphere". The next statement that because of the decision (by them)_ to toss a small percentage of exhibitors, the rest of us should have been fine with that.

Now, we shall see what sort of corporate citizen Reed is. Do they refund the exhibitors and advanced ticket sale money... or do they skip town and pocket it?

Reed has questions that need answered. They need asked and answered in a public venue without the benefit of any filter or protection.

They quit while they were ahead... What a joke. I hope they refund all vendors. Clearly they are just avoiding further embarassment. Thank you to the vendors and sportsman who support our 2nd ammendment.

The the pro gun forces have succeeded in killing a pro hunting and fishing exhibition.

With the momentum, I wish them success in organizing boycotts of those agencies and companies that are actually anti gun, like NYC and anything that comes from there.

The girl scouts have issued anti hunting and anti gun statements in the past. Keep your girls out of that commie organization and don't buy cookies.

I bet they are postponing not canceling it so they don’t have to give the money back to venders and people who purchased tickets in advance.

The story was hitting the national press. Biebart had it, that meant Fox News and others would have it by tonight. Further energizing the gun rights community.

The writing was on the wall. Yesterdays withdraw by exhibitors with massive amounts of floor space placed huge holes in the show layout.

Reed also never made public or changed any perception that the show events and participants had changed. As the promoter, who was selling tickets and floor space based on certain persons and events taking place to draw people, this constitutes fraud. PA state papers were still running press releases promoting the show this week - without any notice, press releases, or correction by Reed of the changed conditions or offerings.

Sportsmen were connected and knew, a lot of us anyway, but not all. The general attending public, mostly would have been in the dark on these events.

In the end, Reed chose to blame sportsmen for the postponement. True to nature, true to form as it played out the last week, Reed takes the lowest road.

Now, pressure must be applied to NSSF to can Reed as the producer of the SHOT Show. Like this action, that effort must be immediate, loud, and directed.

Reed decided to burn their bridges to the American sportsman and Shooters. So be it - lets help them out by removing any possibility of being involved with our shows again.

For the record. Reed owns the Eastern Sports Show - name and all. Hopefully someone will develop a replacement show to compete with Reed and ultimately drive them out of the state.

But make no mistake - they will be back next year... mostly acting like nothing has happened.

This seems to indicate that - but lets wait for some official word. That is verifiable word.

Sorry for re-posting this again, but this needs said again. This also needs to sink into peoples heads in the coming months as the larger battle over our gun rights unfolds.

With another apology for the re-post.. :

Mentioned in another thread was the fact that this insurrection was being reported and supported in other states. And it needs to spread far beyond our borders.

More or less, it was the Pennsylvania sportsman that generated the heat to get the big sponsors to leave the show. That has a cost, likely the viability of the show going forward.

Along the way, others outside our borders joined the cause.

But the grass roots action here that so many of you have been part of has made another difference. It has clearly shown that standing together in unison, we can influence powerful groups and bring the desired change.

That my friends is something that couldn't have come at a better time in the current political climate.

Our friends and brothers in arms needed a boost right now. There has been so much hand wringing, fear, and expectation of a looming gun grab by those elected to office. This action, this unity of purpose should demonstrate that sportsmen and gun lovers all - when we stand unified and work as a group with a singular purpose - can overcome.

At the very least, even if we fall short, the opposition here knows who ran roughshod over them and caused them... to react to us. We turned the tables on them. We put them on the defense.

There is power in numbers. There is More power with a unified force moving to a singular goal. No one worried about who was in charge, no stripes or bars to be won by anyone in the fight. Just a pure desire not to be rolled over and discarded by more powerful forces.

In the coming weeks and months as the looming battle over our gun rights joins, remember what we have accomplished in this one week. Remember how we did it and how it feels right now in this instant.

Then when the assault on our rights start in earnest, cinch up your boot laces and tighten your belt and join the battle again. The stakes will be far higher, the battle longer with fewer clear signs of winning. But you will be ready and prepared knowing we did it here on the home front. Setting and reminding others that it can be done.

So yes, let the message and the news of our battle here spread across the nation. Let this too be written and remembered by our brothers and sisters in arms across the nation. Let them say - those guys did it - so can we.

It is true. We joined, and we swayed the opposition. The win might not be totally ours as of yet. But we made them blink. They are reacting to us - ordinary citizens standing for our rights and basics freedoms.

Each of us showing the way, providing the path easy for others to follow.

Sportsmen acting in concert with the various factions within our community came together and made this happen.

In the months ahead - this sort of INDIVIDUAL ACTION as part of the larger group is going to be vital to our cause!!

The anti's are nothing to be scared of. They are to be respected for what and who they are, but they can be beat.

Be proud!

Right! So give people what they believe in and reverse the decision to infringe on the second amendment and everyone could enjoy. I for one am very proud of all boycotted them.
They can take their policies right back to England with them.
