I've been making elderberry wine over the last several years. Always had an abundant amount of elderberries. I was disappointed to see many leaves and pretty much all of the berries are gone. I believe it was the japanese beetles. Anybody else have similar problems? Kinda bummed.

The same thing must have happened to the blackberries. There were tons of green blackberries on the bushes in July, now that it's picking time, they are mostly gone.

If you wait till elderberries are completely ripe around here there are gonna be a lot missing off a stem. Birds eat them up.

I have the red elderberry and they ripen in June and July. I see the catbirds eating them and then the catbirds were eating our raspberries. Now they are eating the blackberry.
