I am no way knowledgeable on the subject but I've heard that gills are usually bad on mushrooms.

Gills thing is a myth! Portabella have gills so do oyster mushrooms. Not sure what that is without getting out my field guide.

Gills just make mushrooms harder to ID, you have to take a spore print to be safe with some of them. Since I'm colorblind and could misread a spore print, I don't even try.
