Wilkes-Barre, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will host a public hearing regarding Broad Mountain Power, LLC’s application for a National Pollutant Discharge and Elimination System (NPDES) permit for the proposed Broad Mountain Wind Project to be located in Nesquehoning Borough and Packer Township, Carbon County. The hearing will take place on Monday, October 21, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Weatherly Area Middle/Elementary School located at 602 6th St., Weatherly, PA 18255.

The company plans to construct 21 windmills on a 290-acre tract of land on top of Broad Mountain, which spans both communities. The NPDES permit is required for stormwater discharges associated with the proposed construction activities. Representatives from DEP and Broad Mountain Power will be on hand at the public hearing to listen to the testimony.

DEP received Broad Mountain Power’s permit application on May 6, 2019, and the permit application was deemed administratively complete on June 10, 2019. The permit application is now under review by the DEP and a public comment period is now open.

A public notice advertising the hearing was published in the PA Bulletin on September 14 and will be published in the Times-News newspaper on September 20.

Those wishing to pre-register to comment at the October 21 public hearing or those who wish to submit written testimony can contact Colleen Connolly, Community Relations Coordinator at [email protected] or by calling DEP Northeast Regional Office at 570-826-2035. Written public comment will be accepted by DEP until Friday, November 1 at 4:00 PM.

A comment/response document from the public hearing will be prepared afterwards and will be available to the public once it is complete.
