After work today. Same as yesterday I get about an hour or so but it only takes a second. Snow here in the east through the night. Off tomorrow and Thursday. Half day maybe Friday and all day Saturday. I'm seeing deer just not the right ones. Good luck.

Hunted SGL 282 (the Akeley Swamp) this morning. Plenty of deer sign there, but I didn't see any deer. I shot an 8-point opening day so I was still-hunting for a doe, and it was one of those days when the wind was at my back the whole time. No matter which way I turned, the wind turned, too.

I've never shot a deer in this swamp. I've come close a couple of times, but never won the cigar. Mostly I don't see any deer. I don't know where they bed in the daytime, but there must be a dry spot somewhere no one goes that holds a hundred deer. I've done some shed hunting there, but have found only 3 spikes and a couple of small deer that apparently shed their entire skulls.

This afternoon I might sit in my treestand out back, but I doubt the wind will be right for it.

Steve.

Went out for a few hours today. Walking in the woods was a no-go as it sounded like walking on corn flakes. Stuck to the trails, paths and overgrown fire line cuts. Did a 4 mile loop on the game lands, but saw nothing. Was really hoping with the change in weather coming that the deer would be moving, but............there has to be deer.....for them to be moving! ;) lol

Got a nice medium size doe just as the heavy rain was moving in about 1:30-2. She was the 15th deer seen. I was sneaking my way through a known bedding area on the way back to the car and she popped up and stood there a couple seconds to long. 60 yd shot and she ran about 30 yds. Used a 7mm rem mag shooting 140gr Barnes tsx bullets. That's it for me as I'm saving a doe tag for flintlock.

Saw a really nice buck standing along the road on the way home from work. Raining to hard here for me to go out, having an Ohio buck in the freezer and a taxidermy bill to pay has me a little less motivated. Taking off work Friday and plan on finishing strong.

Finally had deer in front of me this morning as I have about 50 to 55 minutes to hunt on property aside of my work place. I had 2 doe at legal light and about 7 am had a racked buck make his way in a field. Shot was at 7:10 at about 300 yards. He was a 3 1/2 16 inch spread ,great mass and about 170 lbs. I was a little late for work, but made up for it.Hunted almost every day at both ends of the work day. There is about 2 inches of snow, should be a good day tomorrow. Good luck to all.Can not post pics, had tried with no luck.
