Can anyone pass along the legalities / requirements that are used to consign a firearm to the status of Curio or Relic? I know it has something to do with the date of manufacture of the specific firearm but I don't have specifics. Also, are handguns subject to being classified as Curio or Relic and if so does this designation remove them from being subject to an FFL transfer process?

Handguns can be C&R and they can be bought and sold between C&R license holders without having to go through an FFL, at least for 99% of us. I "think" a state or two (NY, CA??) might throw a monkey wrench into the works. Not sure though.

I did not renew my C&R several years ago, as the market for those firearms has pretty much dried up.
