I was wondering if anybody had an opinion on this model? Or hopefully somebody owns one. I have $90.00 in Dick's Sporting Goods rewards. It is listed on Dick's site for $179.00 but I found it for $107.00 and they will match it. I want to buy one at either Dick's or Field and Stream so I can use the rewards. I really would like to keep it under $150.00. I can always replace the scope with one I have laying around. I'm just going to use it for pest control around the property and maybe a few squirrel. The other one I looked at on Field & Stream's site was the Hatsan Striker 1000S Combo .22 Caliber Pellet Gun".
Thanks in advance.

Racks, I have a Nitro Venom in .177 That I bought a few years ago.It is a break barrel it shoots great I really like it, although it is on the heavy side feels like holding an 30.06 but solid. It came with a Center Point 3x9 scope that I could not get to zero in.i bought a better 3x9 scope for it and it is pretty accurate now. Look up some of the reviews on them, that's what I did when I was looking for a air rifle in that price range, and I settled on the Nitro and I`m glad I did.It works well on Whistle Pigs and such....If you want to shoot mine, let me know...

Thanks Slick. The reviews seemed pretty favorable so I may just get that one. I was leaning toward the .22 for some more damage on groundhog shots in the yard. How close do you need to be with the .177 to get them? I am also assuming you need a decent head shot with the .177 to dispatch them. I haven't owned an air gun since I was a kid and my son's is from when he was really young. I't doesn't have much power.

I have it sighted in dead on at 25 yds, only because we shoot that distance indoors at the club, but I have hit them good out to 40 to even 50yds.I aim for the lungs just as I would with a deer, they run a little when hit and sometimes run back in there hole. But it saves me from disposing of them. The 22 cal. may be your best bet if your looking for more knock down power and maybe to do some squirrel hunting with...Let me know how it goes,I think you will like this gun, I know your son will.....mine is all black....

Thanks. I just assumed I could put on a rifle scope. Is that a bad idea?
Racks, I bought a Simmons 3x9 at Gander Mt, was on sale for around 40 bucks, another shooter told me he put the Simmons on his air rifle and never has had a problem. So that`s what I did and its been fine so far after 2 years.
They say the difference in a rifle scope and a air rifle scope is ..the rifle scope is set up for a reverse recoil into your shoulder and a air rifle scope is made to account for the forward recoil push of the gases when fired. But I believe a decent rifle scope will work just fine......

Funny thing when I went to Gander Mt. to purchase the 40 dollar Simmons the guy at the rifle counter told me I should buy a air rifle type scope for my Nitro, he then tried to sell me a 179.00 Leupold rifle scope for which I declined telling him I already own 2 of them.Took the Simmons and it has disposed of quite a few critters with out a problem..
