Well now that the regular gun season is over I was wondering how many guys and gals are saying I could've shot one, I should've shot one or I would've shot one? I've said all three many times, but I've learned that you don't pass one up on the first day that you'd be happy to take on the last day.

I shot at an 8 pt the first day and it bucked and I was so sure I had a sure shot I didn't bother shooting any more. I didn't want to shoot it up. Well it never fell over. I found hair but no blood. I trailed it for a good 600 yds with no sign of blood.

I haven't bought a doe license in years...seems I could fill a tag every year if I wanted to...I usually get at least one good opportunity at a buck... if I choose not to take it...or I mess up...no regrets.

The Wednesday after the opener, I left my stand to try a sneak on a doe that I thought was moving away from my direction. When I got to the small rise where I thought the doe had long since left, to my surprise it was only 20 yards further away. It was feeding when I thought it was moving away. It spooked and that was that. I think had I stayed put, it might have fed in my direction, offering a shot. Oh well, I too have flintlock season yet so no worries.
