Although the HPA annual turkey contest is in effect already, I thought maybe the avid bow/x-bow guys would be interested in having a contest for some bragging rights...
This will be my first go-around with the Omen and some Magnus turkey heads for spring gobbler, but I want to see the attention other hunters put towards it.
If anyone's interested, let's make it happen!

I would be interested if it is open to all bows.
don't take this personal, it's not.

crossbows users would have a huge advantage, they shouldn't be allowed in an archery only contest. even moreso than many other pursuits, having to not draw on a turkey makes hunting with a crossbow an apples to oranges thing. actually much more similar to hunting with a shotgun, no?

The OP mentioned all bows, including crossbows. If the contest happens and crossbows are not included, so be it. I will hunt turkeys with my crossbow from a ground blind for my own enjoyment and enter archery contests elsewhere that welcome me and the general turkey contest here at HPA if I am fortunate enough to be successful.

Not going to debate here. Not the place. I would be happy to entertain your biases elsewhere though.

i asked you to not take it personal.

i'm not biased, just realistic. not sure how that could be concidered biased, when looking at the physical acts involved in shooting each of these weapons in a turkey hunting situation.

i guess using a blind would kinda' level the playing feild though. and like crossbows, i have nothing against them either, although no one could argue that they also give an advantage, no?

Count me in. And just to get my opinion in on this, ground blinds should be included, why wouldn't they be? And so should crossbows. A crossbow is a legal weapon to archery hunt with in PA and most other states for that matter so let them in as well. I know this is just for bragging rights so who cares if you use a crossbow or not, or hunt out of a blind. You still have to put a good shot on the bird!

If you use a ground blind, then you have to take head shots rather its with an x-gun or bow. That would allow x-guns and make it a little more even. No blind, you got to have a vert. There is just no discussion on the advantages of an x-gun when hunting turkeys without a blind.

Would have tagged out the past two years if it weren;t for that little thing you have to do with a bow, and thats called draw.

Good Luck to all.

Looks like there isn't alot of interest in the contest and more interest in making sure someone else doesn't get a leg up on another.

Tis a shame when someone wants to start a friendly contest for all of those that choose to archery hunt turkeys and we are discussing ground blinds and bows.

This is equivalent to watching folks complain about scoped magnums being allowed for rifle deer contests versus the lever actions guys.

I will pass.

To the OP I guess the whole idea of a contest is a good one, but I personally think some people have put too much thought into the rules. I'll take a pass on the contest and try and get my bird with my compound out of my blind. I have enough trouble trying to do that.
I agree. Thanks GC for the effort, but I too will pass.
