So I didn't make it to the Sheriff's office prior to my permit expiring. Is there a window for renewal or do I need to start from scratch?

I think you have 6 months to renew. I just did mine Friday was past a couple months and was in and out in 10 minutes with a new permit.

You do need to fill,out the form though and fee of $20.

The fine and penalty is lowered for carrying with a recently expired permit but still against the law.
