Colton has been chasing spring turkeys for a few years, but had yet to put a tag on one. Today he finally broke the dry spell.

We heard about 8 to 10 gobblers on the roost and they were gobbling quite a bit including 4 or 5 that were within 150 yards of us. After they flew down though things went really silent. We sat still and just kept calling every 15 to 20 minutes. At 7:30 a gobbler sounded off right behind us. Two longbeards came into our left feeding and were working their way in front of us. Unfortunately they turned and started working back from the way they came. We tried calling them back but they would not respond. They stopped behind some brush in the field when it started to rain and milled around there until about 8:30. At that time another longbeard joined them and they started coming our way again. They finally fed their way in and Colton made a nice shot on the bird that only made it about 20 yards after the arrow went thru him. He had an 8.5" beard (counting the longest couple hairs), 1 1/8" & 1 1/16" spurs, and weighed 19 lbs.
