I am in need of new cold weather gear. My old wool gear has run its course.
What are your experiences with clothes?
Any manufacturer / style you could recommend.
I don't mind spending money on gear that will last me 10 years.

The Arctic gear is suppose to be very warm.
i love my cabelas wooltimate suit with windblocker on super cold days. its a blend of fleece/wool and you can put it through the washer.
I have Cabela's berber fleece. Sorta look like chewbacca, but a light layer underneath and you're all set. It has gore windstopper in it.

It sure is, I own a parka & pants, Arctic Shield is Waterproof,Windproof,Quite & Breathable very warm best money I ever spent on hunting clothing.
Take a look at http://www.riverswest.com 10 years warranty. If it needs repaired they will send you a replacement while its fixed. Had mine 5 years wind and waterproof, warm and quiet. Never had a problem with it so far.

Don
Get some more good quality wool. Lots of choices out there. I've gone back to wool after trying lots of other stuff over the years.
Wool, Polyester or Down. Pretty much anything Polar-tec or similar (polyester fleece) has worked very well for me. The Wooltimate fleece that Cabelas sells works well (wool/polyester blend). When things get really cold it's hard to beat goose down.

My biggest gripe with winter apparel is finding good socks. Their are a bunch of supposed "wicking" or "wool" socks out there that are junk. It's amazing how many crappy socks companies sell and then people wonder why they have cold feet.
I just bought a coat from Cabelas labelled as a "Stand Hunter" parka. I am planning to use it on a deer hunting trip in New England in a couple weeks. I don't think it is waterproof but it seems like it would be warm. I'll post my results. I have a lot of hunting gear and I still get cold when the temps are below about 30.

Then you need to find base layers that work better for your hunting style.

I have a lot of base layers too - some fleece and some thermax. I am able to hunt for pretty long periods (stand hunting) but am just uncomfortable a lot of the time. You are right that base layers can make a big difference. For me, though, long periods of inactivity in the cold make me uncomfortable no matter what I have worn. Stalking, driving and small game hunting are no problem though.
I have to follow these tips, since I'm older and survived freezing weather using shetland wool sweaters and polypropylene insulation.

Today, they've got "base wear" that cost more than my still useable hunting parka.

The one thing I always remembered. It gets at least 10 degrees colder, sitting in one spot for an hour.
smartwool socks work great for me, though after a few years they loose their i dunno "poofiness", beagle wear works great too, have always wore wool in late season, and layers, wool longjohn etc.. just spray down for scent and i hang them with those fresh earth scent wafers in a zip up bag, like for fine suits and stuff. If your wool doesn't have a windstopper layer use and under layer that has it makes big difference.
Beaglewear from Vt. IS the best clothing for COLD weather money can buy hands down , nothing else compares,,,,, Ask for Steve.
I just ordered the Arctic Coat. I comes with a gaurantee that if you get cold you get a full refund. I hope I like it. I had a 20% off code so I got it for $160. I mainly ordered it so I could have a new one and pass my old quad-parka down to my son who needs a new coat. He gets the hand me downs.
