was out fishing the del. river sat.and landed a coal black catfish.i've never seen or heard of a black catfish.has anyone on here ever heard of one?

Its just a color phase thing. I find in colder water the darker they are.

can't see the tail. Is it split or one solid fin? If it's split, its a melanistic channel cat. Otherwise it really looks like a flathead

Its a channel. The top jaw is further forward then the bottom. Flatheads are the other way. I never caught one that black.

the tail was split.we wern't sure what we had.the head was fairly flat and wide.earlier that morning i broke the line on a cat at the boat that probably went 30 lbs.i was thinking flathead on that one.kinda yellow in color.

That's a big bullhead!
Thats a channel. Not a bullhead. It was about 7-8 lbs.
