First I use my pocket knife and scrape at it. Then I use either rubbing alcohol or acetone to clean the shaft. They say acetone is not the best for carbon shafts. I use it but I just try not to use a lot of it. Have to be careful scraping a carbon shaft with a pocket knife since you can "cut in" to them.

If its glue from a wrap, warm water and a SOS pad. From old fletchings, I have a tool that I use to scrape it off. Designed for arrows.
