I'm an officer in the Paint Borough Sportsmen's Club and last year we decided to join the Civilian Marksmanship Program. Seems like a good organization also. One of the benefits to being a member to this organization is you can purchase guns and ammo. Since our club does quite a few .22 shoots and the limited inventory of .22 ammo available, we thought it would be a good idea to purchase a case of .22 LR ammo. It was ordered in July and we found out it would be a 6 month wait. After 6 months they now tell us it's a 12 month wait. Anybody else ever have dealings with CMP and had issues like this?

My club has had the same issue for a while. Both with 22's and Shotshells. We had to go to outside sources to get what we can. They are under the same constraints as the rest of the markets.

Been dealing with CMP for nearly 10 years now. Not a better friend of shooters anywhere.

I have bought both guns and ammo from them. If you want immediate gratification, CMP is not the way to go. But you will get a very fair deal on some hard to get firearms. Because of there limited manpower, mail orders are always slow, usually months. Their .22 ammo shortage reflects the national problem. Their suppliers are severely limiting their allocations. The thing about CMP is they will fill orders in the order they are received. Before the current supply problems they had .22 in 5000 round lots for about $.02 per round.

If time is important for purchase of firearms, a visit to their stores may be in order.

Check their website and monitor the forums and you will find you are not alone in your frustrations. However, don't blame the organization, they are doing everything they can and have the best customer service you will see anywhere.

It's a first class outfit in my opinion. In my experience they've gone the extra step to make things happen.

The CMP is great, but they can only fill orders as fast as they receive supplies. They work on a small budget with a smaller staff, but do all they can. Write your Representatives and ask them about the containers of .22LR sitting in limbo at the Ports of Houston and Los Angeles and not allowed to clear Customs.
