So, for applications let's say of the PA Hunting Seasons which rifle would you take if you could select from the calibers below? (Only one) And why?

The list includes the calibers I am currently looking for in my next bolt rifle. I understand some of your favorites have been left out.

My pick is 7mm though i have a 7mm wsm. Its my go to gun with 150 gr bullet it is great for deer and with 160gr bullet it will handle bear and elk. You also can never go wrong with the 30-06.

I chose the .308. Mainly because it's the closest thing on the list to the 7mm-08 which is what I would actually choose. I'm primarily a .30-06 guy but if I'm buying a rifle just for use in PA I don't need an '06. I think the 7mm-08 is ideal for all around work in PA and that makes the .308 a close second. The '06 is a good all around gun but the problem is there is always something better it seems. Out west you're better off with a .270 or a 7mm mag. Up north in the Moose woods you're better off with a .35 Whelen or a .338 WM. Bear over bait a .45-70 seems to be the ticket. On and on it goes. The .30-06 is right for the guy that wants to do this stuff but he doesn't want to have to own an arsenal.

Guess I should say because everyone else in camp shoots a 270.
well, everyone else in your camp is smart.

I voted for the 270, via the 25-06 spot.

Because 25-06 is more of a wild-cattish cartridge and is not a standard round like the others.

270 deserves a spot!!

For anything in encountered in the Pa woods the .308 will handle it. I think that could be said of most of those calibers listed, but I chose the .308 because I have a few of them and that cartridge has never let me down.

I've added to my OP - should have stated from the beginning that I'm looking for a new bolt rifle and the calibers above are the ones in contention.

I own a 270 pump and a 30-30 lever and am looking for another bolt gun.

270 is the best gun I ever used for deer. Shoots nice and flat for me. I have shot deer at 10 yards and 300......nothing beats it and it doesn't blow your shoulder off like some of the other larger calibers.....270 all the way.
