There's been a bunch of these Barred Owls around the house lately. I think it might be a mamma and juvey. The first one was just outside my picture window Monday night.



These 2 were out front last night and let me walk up to about 20 yards.



This was pretty cool...it puffed up



then preened itself.

Good deal bownut. Owls are tough to get pictures of because you just don't see them much. (at least I don't).

Apparently, these are 2 young owls. I watched them again last night for an hour, with an adult this time. The adult didn't stick around when I went outside and sat by a tree, but the 2 young ones stuck around until dark. They even came very close to me several times.

They must be learning to hunt. They perched in low branches above my yard, looking downward and every so often would swoop down to the ground. I didn't see them catch anything, but they just kept doing it until I went inside when it was too dark to see. Pretty cool to watch.
