As is the case here in NY, a lot of hunters refer to the Regular season as rifle/gun season. Which is of course wrong. It's called regular season because no special permits, such as archery permit, are necessary to hunt it.
Depending on where you hunt, here in NY, there may be restrictions to firearms that may be used. For instance in some areas rifles may not be used. However, shotguns, muzzleloaders, pistols and archery may be used.
I can't tell you how many guys I've spoken to over the years that didn't know that you could use the bow during the regular season. These are guys that have hunted for years.
My comments are based strictly on the hunting seasons here in NY.
