i am looking to get a new camera, not really sure what to get... i don't know much about them, i would like something with a pretty good zoom... i like wildlife pic taking , along with kids and family pic taking , how many mega pixels should i be looking at, i have about 3-500 to spend. any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated....

Well with only 300-500 hundred to spend I would look at a good point and shoot with a fixed lens something like these

Agreed. Or you can look into just the body of Nikon D60 and buy a nice piece of glass like a Nikon 55-200 telephoto lens later.

Don't rule out used either. I bought a used D70s for $250 from a friend who took very good care of it. I've also purchased all of my glass used and you can save a great deal of money that way.

it helps some, i just bought a camera from a member here .. a pretty nice camera, just a few years old, some were saying i should have gotten a newer camera , because the one i bought has only 5.1 megapixels, i did'nt know a megapixel from a fig newton , i know it takes pretty good pics though ......so i may play around with it a lil more before i decide... it is a sony dsc h1 12 x zoom... have any opinion on that cam... i thank you for the help

thanks zim, i love your pics of the day, i was gonna p.m. you , but figured you may have spent well more then i am willing to.... i am looking for a good solid cam that i can take a pic of a turkey at 70 yards , yet take pics of family and friends at 4 feet..... without going to photo school....i guess research is the answer...i thank you all for any input.
