butternuts

about 2 weeks ago i picked 2 5 gallon buckets worth of butternuts in about 15 min. and i'm goingback prob. tues for more. however sat. i picked them up out of the drive way after my beagle alarm went off. yeah looked out side and ther is a big ole bussy tail. i chased him off and went out to pick up my stash. yet little bugger got me i only got 1 5 gallon bucket left. i planted a seedly i gre from a nut last year this fall. hopefully it will produce some in a few years. sdoes anyone know how long till a butternut produces?

A single tree will not bear many nuts. The Butternut is monoecious with the male and female flowers maturing at different times.

Bearing age is about 20 years. You might want to consider a canker resistant cultivar instead.
SHOOT I KNEW THAT! I FORGOT ABOUT NEEDING 2 TREES.
