I had 2 25lb. bags of buckwheat left over from last year, I planted it . 7 days later not a sprout, Is that normal? I was thinking something happened to the seed & it diddnt keep. It was kept in it's original paper bags. on a shelf in the barn. We have had some rain lots of sun. ?

Its to cold yet, buckwheat is a warm season crop. Seed will not germinate until the soil temp is consistanly 60 to 65 degrees. its not recomended to be planted until May 15th at the earliest and June 1 is much better.

Too early to plant buckwheat. Even if you get a stretch of weather that allows germination occur a light frost could wipe it out.

Buckwheat is a hard one to miss on - I swear it would grow in concrete. I have to agree too early to plant. I never plant it before June 1.
