Hey Guest, it looks like you haven't made your first post yet. Until you make an introduction thread, the rest of the site is locked to posting. Why not take a few minutes to say hi!
Shot a nice 8pt tonight...hit a grunt back..center of body...broadside....dark red blood soaked arrow...guessing liver hit..tracked about 10 yds....no blood.....I backed out and I'm goin to give him till 10 tonight...anyone else experience this?
Sounds like liver. I'd wait till morning. It will be cold tonight and if you hit him further back then you think it will be best to give him more time. Also, easier to track in the daylight.
Honestly, I would let him lay and pickup the track tomorrow morning. Liver hit is definately lethal but he may go aways. You'll find him in the morning, trust me.... Thumper
Liver hits can kill them in seconds or keep them alive for a day. The weather is going to be in the 40's tonight, I would let him go all night. If he's dead by 10, he'll still be dead in the morning but if you bump him in the dark you might never find him.
Morning or better yet, late morning tomorrow. If he is dead he will be laying there regardless of when you go looking. If he is not dead, he may not if you look too soon.
A couple years ago on our southern Ohio trip a guy hit a buck and we thought it was a liver hit. He hit it early afternoon and we waited until the morning. The buck was still alive in the morning, but was unable to get up. The arrow had cut the edge of the liver. Best wait till morning it's going to be a cool night.
Liver dark red blood.....pass through good.....do not track for 4-6 hours. Usually go 70-150 yards depending on terrain. I never like to leave a deer over night due to the number off coyotes. Good luck.
let him lay, you'll find him in his first bed in the morning. if your anything like me you'll be up all night chomping at the bit come day break, good luck!
Lol. Im sitting in Ohio hunting and have been checking in regularly to see if he found it. I think he will if he waited. Hope to hear the good news soon.
