Found these in the woods next to our house. I have never seen them there before. They look like a black morel but not quite. I tried to identify with my Audubon Field Guide but couldn't find anything that was exact.

those are half-free morels. similiar to the black but not as meaty and pretty fragile. they are the most common in my area. i eat them all the time.

Thanks pumpgun! I didn't want to try them until I was sure someone knew exactly what they were. It is interesting that I have never seen them in the woods next to my house. I do walk these woods frequently as they have produce a good supply of oyster mushrooms. Thanks again.
