i say...whatever your rifle shoots the best. My XS likes the 150s and will not stabilize a 180 at all. so my vote is for 150.

I would agree that 180 is the choice for Bear. But since the 150 is the better deer bullet it may make sense just to pick a good 165 and be done with it.

There is always that consideration. But for the sake of the poll we're just assuming that if all other things are equal, what's the best weight? And I know bullet construction varies greatly within any given weight (i.e, a 150 can be either a Barnes X or a Win. Power-Point) but just consider your preferred style bullet and then pick your favorite weight.

I also could have included the 170 but didn't since it's rather limited to the .30-30.

I'm assuming since you mentioned 30 cal, you are talking Bear and elk, so I chose 220!!

No one would use a 30 for deer, they'd use a 270!!

150gr Hornady Spire Points get the nod in 3-.308's, 2-30/06's and a .300Wby.

Well Mike, since this is for a .30 cal i chose the 180 because my 308, and 06 love the 180 core-lokt SP.

Now if it were for the .270 then i would have chose the 150 because it loves the 150 core-lokt SP.

Maybe, but there's a lot of 30-30 roaming the deer woods. 150gr 30-30 are still available too.

Never hunted anything bigger than deer. The 150 grain Rem Coreloct in 308 has served me very well, for larger game I would go to the 180 grain.

Voted 165 since it's the optimum weight for my 06. Been shooting the Hornady 165 Interbonded.
