I finally started to pick some blueberry and strawberries this past week. I have two blueberry patches and I tried to grow some ever-bearing strawberries in hanging baskets in an empty greenhouse this summer. I have been picking about a quart every other day from about 25 different plants. I hope when they all start to produce I will get three or four quarts every few days. I am planning to have some the whole way up to November. The blueberries are just starting to get ripe. Here are a few pictures of my plants.

Noticed this morning that a few of the blackberries had turned from green to dull red. Checked the wineberries and they look like they will be a week late this year. However, blueberries are coming in strong. Mrs. picked a 5 qts yesterday and about a gallon on Saturday. Also looks like the high bush cranberries have a good set this year, but they won't be ready til October.

My blueberries are about a week away. The golden raspberries are getting ripe now and the black raspberries are just starting to get ripe.

This year has been nothing short of epic. The quantity and size are almost overwhelming. When I left town last Thursday evening we were just picking our first few berries each night. 3-10 maybe. When I went outside Monday evening after work it was more then I could possibly deal with. I think cause of all the cold weather early on that everything is in a big dang hurry to rippen. Also, for whatever reason the birds have not bothered the berries and I sometimes count on them to help me not have a lot of waste. There is plenty of rasps and black rasps for all to go around. The Blues I keep covered. MINE!!!

The reds are large this year

We have a few black raspberry bushes around the house and we have been able to get a handful off of them every few days. It has been a nice little snack for the kids. The blackberries are going to be outstanding in my area this summer. I have a few patches that are looking very good. I would guess they are still a couple weeks away, but almost there. We have been able to find a few blackberry plants that are growing right along the ground and those berries are already ripe. We filled up a quart container the other day and the kids ate them all before we got home!

Greenhouse strawberry's are very good. I was a little apprehensive about it. I am picking about 2-3 quarts every other day or so. Some are very large and others are on the smaller side. I won't complain since all the local berry's are over. I think from what I have read the berry size will get larger once the weather cools off in September or October. My black raspberry's are are over now. They burnt up in the heat. I am still picking blueberry's. I am getting 7-10 pounds twice a week. They should be done by the middle of August or so.

I think my greenhouse strawberry are really liking the cool weather we have been having. I picked almost 6 quarts tonight. I also got some of the biggest berry's I have gotten off of them so far this year.

Still picking my greenhouse strawberries. I am pleasantly surprised how well they have performed. I picked 12 quarts tonight, the most ever. I usually get between 5-6 nice quarts and 1 or so that has smaller berries. My daughter wanted her picture with them tonight. I am also picking about a quart of red raspberries every other night.

I have to say I am very surprised on how the greenhouse strawberry's are doing. I did have to move them outside for about a month in September. Now that its gotten cold they are back inside. They are not producing as much now since the days are shorter. They berry size has also gone down and there are a lot of misshapen ones with no bees to pollinate them. I guess I will keep them till my Dad says he needs to put something else in that greenhouse.
