I have always believed that coyotes holed up during the day.

Recently I read on here and also in a hunting magazine that they bed down, (similar to deer).

Which is it, and does it depend on weather, pressure, etc?

From my knowledge they rarely will go into a hole except to raise young and even then the males rarely do.

Coyote are like deer. Reds are similar. Greys "hole" up. At least that is what I have always thought or have been told.

They simply lay down where they feel secure during the day. Most fox do as well. I have known grey fox to hole up during particularly bad storms however. On very rare occasions did we ever have a grey hole up when being run by hounds, most (but not all) of those were when a grey was hit. I did see two actually go up trees back in the day. Never had a red or coyote hole up when being pursued.
