Noticed some Beaver sign along my fox line- and gearing up to catch a couple of them! I'm looking for plans, tips, feedback on floats used in rivers (the V shape ones). Are natural logs any better than pressure treated 2x4, what lures, anchoring systems, etc. Your help is as always- appreciated.

I have found that setting up drowning rigs for muskrats is time consuming- I can only imagine the difficulties involved rigs Beaver... I think I have Beavers traveling through the stretch I want trap and floats would not only be most effective but also safest...

Setting drowning rigs for rat is a waste of time there is no reason for it. Setting up floats for beaver, I’ve seen them. But I have no idea why a trapper would use one unless there are no other options, because there are too many better options as suggested above. But if that is what you would like to do give it a shot. YouTube beaver floats and you’ll see some people that gave it a try and what they did. I just cannot see any reason for waiting the time, energy, and materials, when there are more effective options out there for them.

Good Luck!

anyone who thinks they are a waste in a creek or river never used one. you can get them out passed the bank ice where the beaver are traveling and water level is not a factor. easy to check from a distance too. only bad is the dumb law about 2 connis.

330 springs are just wedged in slots in the back. you can see it well in the first pic. i just pile some mud with a good glob of castor on it for lure. sometimes a few aspen twigs. make it out of thin wall and fill with packing peanuts and spray foam. i made it for the spots that stay open when everything freezes but not hard enough to get on the ice to get at them. but it works well in the river too. beaver are attracted to white anyway so dont bother camo it.

Bobcat, what is the white material and is it just wrapped around some logs? I dont see where the packing peanuts and spray foam are involved.

the "white" is 4 inch thin wall pvc. cut at an angle to make the "v". then bolted together on the end and a few straps screwed across and maybe even a little duct tape (thats what makes it work lol) fill the end with spray foam then packing peanuts then spay foam in the trap ends. cut the slots just big and deep enough to hold the springs. the foam and peanuts make it float. i make them up in the summer. i have a jig made for the angles. if it was out of logs it would be like 50 lb. lol you better just drive over here and look at one. heck you can barrow one if you want.
