is there anything other then a felt backing? it looks kind of cheap to me.....any of you taxidermists ever hear of anything a lot more durable and sharper looking you could use....??

if you cant find any other alternitives how about just black felt without the other color. it would just blend in and probably make the cape appear larger. just a thought.

I wondered the same thing. To me it doesn;'t seem like there's much to them. Maybe they use hide paste on the felt and bear, then sew it? I couldn't tell ya.

What are you going to do with the head, most bear rugs with felt also have the head mounted, open or closed mouth. I have 3 tanned bear hides that I just hang from hooks, but I could also put them on something as a throw. I have a zebra rug with felt but on them the head is ironed flat, looks good.

The rugs for bears that I do for customers have the felt and padding/backing done by a professional taxidermy rugger. There is padding, a canvas looking backing and 2 layers of scallopped felt on the edges, as well as hangers. Many customers opt for 2 layers of black felt on black bear rugs, it makes the skin look larger.

do you have any pictures of the double black felt foxtrapper....that is sounding like it might be very good looking. thanks a lot for the responses everyone. hopefully this is my year for a bear!

My brother had his done with black felt and It looks Incredible. I would definatly suggest going this route.

One of my buddies got a 38 # baby in Ontario this spring--his wife is knitting a doilies to back that with
