According to a local Officer you have to have a valid Bear license to even drive for bear. I have always heard different, but when I looked in the regs, it states "Anyone participating in a bear hunt Must have a current Bear license. Anyone if this is true?

§ 143.68. Carrying the license.

For a bear license issued subsequent to the owner’s general hunting license, the bear license shall be signed by the owner in the space provided and shall be carried on the person at all times when the owner is hunting for bear. The bear license does not need to be displayed but shall be produced for inspection upon demand of any officer authorized to enforce this title.

. . . how does this square with the exceptions to a license found in the Act under 2701.c ???????
Timber, The original question was about driving for bear. I interpreted the question to mean does a person need a bear license if he is only driving for bear, and not possessing a firearm. Acting as a driver requires a bear license.

If a person is not possessing a firearm, and is within sight & hearing distance of a licensed hunter, and meets all other 2701(C) exceptions, then he wouldn't need the bear license.

However, this hypothetical situation could be very problematic for a "bear driving" situation where sight & hearing distances may not be continuously met, and then would create an unlawful situation.

Why would you need a bear tag if you cannot kill a bear? Maybe they should sell a bear driving permit for half price that doesn't come with a harvest tag.

Could always go grouse hunting. May be tough with bear hunters around but legal on all levels. Waugh!

Only closed during the rifle deer season. Open during archery and both bear seasons. There is a digest with all the dates listed. Waugh!
